Self as Material
Performance-based photographic work,
2018–2020

Self as Material brings together photographic actions in which the artist’s body is staged as surface, object, mask, offering and site of social pressure. Created between 2018 and 2020, the works move through isolation, objecthood, media saturation and ritualised self-display, treating self-image as a material to be altered, concealed, presented and re-seen.

Across the series, the body becomes a sculptural and symbolic instrument. Cracked skin, domestic objects, newspapers, cake and staged gestures transform private states into visible forms, holding humour, vulnerability, spectacle and critique in tension.
