Love Studies is a decade-long body of video, photographic and performative works that examines romance as a cultural system rather than a private sentiment alone. Through roses, wine, hearts, toys, beds, toilets, fire, flesh and bodily action, inherited symbols of affection are placed under material pressure: measured, poured, processed, consumed, discarded, burned, embodied and returned as residue. The series asks what a romantic gesture carries when the action behind it loses integrity, and how tenderness, violence, humour, desire and social performance can occupy the same visual form.
The work is not a rejection of love, but an act of devotion to a more truthful love. Across the series, familiar objects of romance become instruments of testing, revealing how love is performed, hidden, exaggerated, metabolised and transformed. Video holds duration and ritual; photography holds the residue of action; objects become symbolic instruments; the body enters as witness, and an offering of transformation.
